Our Q&A with Fred Oteng-Frimpong:

🔗 We asked Fred some questions to learn more about him:

Introduce yourself! What’s your name, title, how long you’ve been with Phoenix Energy, and a brief description of your role.
“Fred Oteng-Frimpong is my name, and August 2026 would be my 4th anniversary in Phoenix Energy Services Inc. As an Assistant Controller, I assist in the daily accounting/finance and month-end close activities in the Phoenix Energy Services.”

What inspired you to join Phoenix Energy, and how has your journey with the company been so far?
“Before I applied to Phoenix Energy, I visited the website to read about the company. What intrigued and inspired me was the fact that the company considers it’s employees as its greatest and most valuable assets and invests in training them. In a mid-size company like Phoenix Energy, there is always room for advancement. I must admit that my journey in Phoenix Energy has been amazing, as I am privilege to be working along side wonderful and very supportive Managers and co-workers.”

How do you stay motivated and continue to develop your skills in your position?
“My motivation comes from the work culture in Phoenix Energy Services. I have mentors and Managers who provide clear direction amidst given constructive feedback on on-going projects. Thereby reducing complexities that one could encounter. Another thing that keeps me motivated is knowing your contributions to Phoenix Energy don’t go unnoticed. As I put it “a few words of praise make me feel valued and appreciated thereby energizing me to do more.
Phoenix Energy Services also provides avenues for professional development, which in my case is through CPA-Alberta where I take courses for to enhance my skills and counted toward my CPD.”

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career in the energy industry?
“The energy industry is the backbone of the Alberta economy and I would advise all interested to take advantage of the apprenticeship programs for three reasons:

1.       They offer jobs that are stable with good benefits

2.        Higher earning potentials

3.        Leverage transferable skills and obtain certifications”

What are your favourite activities or hobbies outside of work?
“Going for walks, cooking, and watching soccer games – Go Ghana Go!”

What’s a fun fact about you that most people might not know?
“I have married my wife 3 times: Firstly, Ghanaian marriage ceremony, Secondly, a civil marriage througha Justice of the Peace and Lastly, in a church because she is Catholic.”
